Trauma Healing

Many of the symptoms people bring to therapy stem from unprocessed experiences of emotional overwhelm or suffering that occurred earlier in life. Subsequently, things that resemble these experiences in the present moment, can trigger a threat response in the body. This process typically takes place unconsciously and appears irrational at the surface level.

Additionally, experiences of emotional overwhelm/suffering tend to give rise to beliefs or ‘mental models’ that explain why the experience happened and how to avoid it in the future. The younger we are, the more likely we are to connect the dots incorrectly. Overtime incorrect mental models cause more and more problems, yet one is often unaware of how their symptoms/problems are driven by these deep-seated beliefs.

Trauma healing involves bringing such beliefs into conscious awareness, where they can be examined and updated to healthy accurate perspectives, while also releasing trapped emotions from the body. As a result, the related symptoms are no longer needed, and the past suffering no longer gets projected onto the present.

I am trained in several therapy modalities that facilitate healing at the root level, including Somatic Experiencing, Coherence Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Brainspotting.

I work with those age 18 and older.
